FIFA announces World Cup groups, Argentina, Germany, and the Netherlands likely to play in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The groups for the 2026 World Cup have been finalized.

Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City has been selected to host six games in the world's biggest sporting tournament. Fans from all across the city gathered at KC Live! at a watch party to see which teams would be coming to town in late June.

Teams from groups E, F, and J all have a chance to play in one of four group stage games. Germany, Argentina, and the Netherlands are the largest countries that will have a chance to play at least one game at Arrowhead.

One round of 32 games and a quarterfinal match will also be played here in Missouri. The second round game will include the winner of group K. The favorite for that is Portugal, meaning there is a large chance to see either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in the final World Cup of their storied careers.

Team USA will play its first game in Los Angeles, and is joined in its group by Australia, Paraguay, and the winner of European playoff group C.

The final schedule of group stage games is set to be released Saturday, which is when it will be announced which teams will play in Kansas City.
