Columbia murder suspect wants more time to consider possible plea

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -
A co-defendant in a 2024 Columbia murder case wanted more time on Friday to consider a possible plea.
Daevion McCray and his attorney told Judge Joshua Devine they wanted more time to discuss the plea at a 9 a.m. hearing in Boone County court. Devine reset the hearing for Monday at 2 p.m.
McCray is accused of taking part in a shooting that killed 28-year-old Orrion Moody on October 20, 2024. Police said online communication and cellphone geolocation put McCray at the scene of a shootout in the 3900 block of Clark Lane. Court documents do not say who exactly fired the shot that killed Moody.
Prosecutors charged McCray with seven felonies, including second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Substitute charges filed by prosecutors on Thursday claim McCray acted alongside Moody and co-defendant Tavion Johnson to shot at a house with at lease two people there.
Tavion Johnson also faces similar charges for the shooting. His next hearing is set for Dec. 1.
