Mizzou hoops clobbers Prairie View A&M to remain undefeated
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
With a win over Prairie View A&M, on Monday night, Mizzou men's basketball is 5-0 to start a season for the first time since head coach Dennis Gates' debut campaign in Columbia.
Although the Panthers managed to get some garbage time buckets in at the end of the game, the box score will tell the real story, as the Tigers trounced Prairie View A&M in a 91-73 victory at Mizzou Arena.
You can watch the full postgame press conference with Coach Gates, plus extended highlights of the win in the video players below.
The Panthers managed to keep within striking distance of Coach Gates' crew early, but it didn't last too long. MU went on a 20-5 scoring run about midway through the first half, which ended up leading the Tigers to a 22-point lead at halftime.
After the break, Mizzou did not let its foot off the gas, as it cruised to another dominant win.
The Tigers continued to scorch the box score, as the team has been hitting its shots at a historic rate to start the 2025-26 campaign. On Monday, Mizzou ended up shooting 51 percent from the field, which marks the fifth-straight game that Gates' crew has shot better than 50 percent from the field. That's the best shooting start that MU has had to a season in more than 40 years.
Guard/forward Jacob Crews led a balanced scoring attack for Mizzou, as six players got into double-figures. Crews' team-best 18 points came courtesy of four 3-pointers and a 70 percent shooting night from the field. Fellow returner Anthony Robinson also had a big night, as he went 5-of-11 from the field, nabbing two steals and tallying a team-best five assists.
Center Shawn Phillips Jr. was also one of the six Tigers to get into double-digit points, as well, as he logged his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The length and size that Coach Gates added in the offseason was on full display in the win against the Panthers.
"I think they would've affected the Celtics tonight with that kind of length," Prairie View A&M head coach Byron Smith said.
The Tigers out-rebounded Prairie View 49-28, while bullying its opposition in the paint, as well, out-scoring the Panthers 44-22 inside.
Mizzou's bench players also got a big piece of the action, as Gates' crew flexed their depth, as the Tiger bench out-scored the Panther bench 42-18, on Monday night.
Up next - Mizzou will continue its home stand when South Dakota comes to town on Thursday. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
