Woman hurt in Jefferson City train crash

Jefferson City Police Department

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

A woman is recovering after a truck she was in hit a train in Jefferson City on Tuesday.

A crash report from the Jefferson City Police Department said a driver hit the Union Pacific train at the tracks on Hughes Street near Industrial Drive just before 3 p.m. The release said the train "gave an audible signal that it was approaching." The police department said the Chevy Silverado then "collided with the train."

The female passenger in the truck suffered minor injuries. First responders had to divert traffic around the crash scene due to the length of the train stretching west along Industrial Dr. Police said they spent two-and-a-half hours working traffic while the crash investigation unfolded.
