Tracking a polar plunge over the weekend

TODAY: Friday is mostly sunny and warm, with a high near 70. Winds will be from the west around 10 mph.

TONIGHT: Few clouds return tonight, and winds relax. Temperatures fall into the 50s around sunset, and into the 40s by sunrise.

EXTENDED: Saturday starts with some high clouds overhead. We'll be partly to mostly cloudy through the morning, before clouds thicken in the evening. Some sprinkles may be possible with clouds in the morning to early afternoon, but better chances for showers comes in the late evening. Even here, rain is spotty and very light. We look mostly dry and mild through the day, with highs reaching low 60s before the cold front sweeps through in the early afternoon. Temperatures will quickly fall through the late afternoon, leaving us in the low 50s by 6 p.m. This push of cold air is sourced from the arctic, and will drive an anomalously cold airmass into the region for the start of next week. Highs are expected in the 30s Sunday, with lows on Monday morning as cold as 17-23° in some spots. Mild air returns at the middle of next week with highs forecast in the 50s/60s.
