Mizzou volleyball rallies to a gritty win in four sets over LSU

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou volleyball team is hitting its stride in Southeastern Conference action, as the team notched its third-straight conference win with a gritty victory over LSU, on Sunday afternoon.

The win didn't come easy for head coach Dawn Sullivan and her team. In fact, when the match was tied at one set apiece, the group had to rally back from a 10-point deficit in the third.

You can watch the full postgame press conference with Sullivan and middle blocker Tyrah Ariail in the video player below.

When LSU was up 20-11, Coach Sullivan decided to call what would prove to be a critical timeout. After that, her team came out on with a different fire. That spurred on an 8-0 scoring run to put the set within reach. In fact, after a crucial challenge, Mizzou climbed all the way back and tied it up at 24.

MU finished off that thriller of a third set with a 3-0 run to grab the one-set advantage in the match, 27-25.

After that rally, Mizzou would not be denied in set four. The two teams kept it tight to start, but in the end the momentum was on the home team's side.

The Columbia Tigers now lead the all-time series against LSU 15-7, as they improved to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in the SEC with Sunday's win.

Seniors Janet deMarrais and Caylen Alexander led the charge for Mizzou with 17 kills apiece, with deMarrais adding on four digs.

It felt like Ariail showed up in all the biggest moments. The redshirt senior ended her afternoon with 10 kills and seven blocks.

Up next - the Tigers will take a quick break from conference action as they travel to SEMO for a midweek matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
