COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

A well-known St. Louis attorney will handle the murder case of a man accused of killing a Stephens College student downtown.

Attorney Scott Rosenblum's firm will represent Misael Covarrubias in his case. Covarrubias is being held without bond for allegedly killing Aiyanna Williams on September 29 and hurting two others in a shooting.

A preliminary hearing for Covarrubias is set for Nov. 6.

Rosenblum is no stranger to Boone County cases. He handled the defense of Jeffrey Durbin, a former highway patrol trooper the jury convicted of sexual assault. He represented Joseph Elledge in a two-week-long trial in 2021 for killing his wife, Mengqi Ji. A jury found Elledge guilty of second-degree murder in that case. Rosemblum secured an acquittal for Mehrdad Fotoohighiam in a 2015 arson case.
