Tracking a few showers and a big cooldown early this week
TODAY: Monday is yet another well warmer than average day. At a forecast of 85, we're close to 15 degrees warmer than normal today. That all changes with a cold front arriving tonight. We'll likely stay dry in most locations, but as mid-Missouri is sandwiched between a cold front to the northwest and isolated afternoon storms to the southeast, some will have a chance for a pop up storm after 3 p.m. and before sunset. Another chance for storms will come ahead of a cold front through the evening in our northwest counties.
TONIGHT: After a few isolated storms before sunset, a cold front will sweep through overnight. This brings clouds and some scattered light showers overnight. Some will even stay dry tonight as rain coverage continues to look poor.
EXTENDED: Some showers may remain on Tuesday, but the day overall looks mostly dry and cloudy. Rain totals through Tuesday are expected to only reach one hundredth of an inch in most cases. The bigger impact on Tuesday will be a cooldown behind the front. Clouds and north winds around 5-10 mph will keep temperatures near 70 through the afternoon. Strong high pressure across the Midwest keeps us in the 70s through Friday. This will feel dramatically cooler, but is closer to where we should be this time of the year. Warmer air appears to be on the horizon for the weekend.
