Royals clinch series win over Athletics to end season

The Royals have ended their season on a high note.

Kansas City (82-80) captured a 9-2 victory over the Athletics (76-86) in its regular season finale, earning series wins against its final three opponents of the 2025 campaign.

However, manager Matt Quatraro's team missed out on the postseason, finishing six games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the division crown and five games behind the Detroit Tigers for the final American League Wild Card spot.

Kansas City scored nine unanswered runs in eight frames, highlighted by a pair of solo home runs from Mike Yastrzemski. Carter Jensen also belted his third home run of the season to help the Royals build a 9-0 lead by the top half of the eighth inning.

Michael Massey (4), Jensen (3) Adam Frazier (2), Maikel Garcia (2) and Yastrzemski (2) each had multi-hit performances, powering the team's 15-hit day at the dish. Bobby Witt Jr. was also one of three Kansas City hitters to record multi-RBI efforts.

Cole Ragans tossed 4.1 shutout frames, allowing just two hits while striking out eight batters.

The Royals recorded winning records in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2014-15 campaigns.
