Road closures, transit delays announced for MU homecoming parade

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

As Homecoming preparations continue, drivers should expect several road closures in downtown Columbia on Saturday morning for the University of Missouri’s annual parade.

City transit services including Go COMO, Paratransit and the MU Tiger Line will be delayed until noon because of the parade.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Tiger Avenue and Rollins Street, according to the Mizzou Alumni Association.

The route will travel:

  • East on Rollins Street
  • North on Hitt Street
  • West on University Avenue
  • North on South Ninth Street
  • West on Broadway
  • South on Cherry Street, where the parade will end

According to a release sent to ABC 17 News, 131 groups are expected to take part in this year’s parade.

Parking garages downtown will be free beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and will remain free through the weekend. Some drivers say they plan to avoid the hassle altogether.

“We will be Ubering. I don’t know about parking, so we don’t want to be stuck somewhere trying to find a spot,” visitor Kalissa Smith said.

No parking garage closures have been announced for this year.

For football fans, game day shuttle services will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday ahead of the MU football game. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Faurot Field.
