Mizzou homecoming will be warmer than usual this year

Homecoming came early this year, so fans will probably need fewer layers at Faurot for Saturday's game.

Mizzou faces UMass this weekend for its 114th homecoming, which will be held a bit earlier than usual. Traditionally, homecoming happens in October or sometimes November, when fall "football weather" has taken hold and temperatures are cooler.

This year, it's a different story with an above-average late September game day expected. While October highs average in the low 70s and 60s, September often sees highs in the upper 70s or even 80s.

Homecoming this weekend will feel nearly summer-like, with bright, sunny skies and afternoon temperatures in the mid-80s. The parade in the morning will have some fall chill, though, with temperatures in the 60s.

Future Mizzou homecomings may feel even warmer. According to Climate Central, fall temperatures in Columbia have increased about 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit over the past half-century. Winter is warming the fastest, rising over 5 degrees in the last 50 years.
