Tracking a wet midweek ahead of a dry Homecoming weekend
TODAY: Rain chances grow by mid-morning from west to east. A part of an approaching low, scattered thunderstorms will overspread the region. Lightning and thunder will be present, but no severe weather is expected. Widespread moderate and locally heavy rainfall will lead to a chance for ponding on roadways to limited flooding, especially in the southern half of the region, where multiple rounds of rain into the evening bring a chance for an inch to two inches of rain. This will be the high side of expectations, while most across the region will likely be closer to the half inch to one inch mark. Those north of HWY 24 may see a sharp drop off to the tune of a tenth of an inch being possible on the low side. High temperatures are kept in the mid-70s thanks to persistent rain and cloudcover.
TONIGHT: Rain will continue overnight, but in a lighter and more sparse manner. Our rain accumulations will slow. Temperatures stay in the mid-60s, so not much of a cooldown is expected.
EXTENDED: Wednesday is slightly cooler, with some in the low 70s and others in the upper 60s at the warmest point of the day. Showers and storms will linger, mostly south of I-70, on the back side of the low pressure. Again, no severe weather is expected. This will pad rain totals with a few hundredths, but pale in comparison to the greater totals on Tuesday. Few morning showers may be possible on Thursday, but Thursday largely marks the return to drier weather, and even sunshine. Highs remain in the 70s Thursday, but we return to sunshine and 80s Friday through the weekend.
