Royals get shutout in rubber match loss to Tigers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Thanks to a stunning day on the hill for Detroit right-hander Tarik Skubal, the Kansas City Royals could not muster any offense in a five-run rubber match loss to the Tigers, on Sunday.
Skubal threw seven innings of four-hit baseball against skipper Matt Quatraro's crew. Meanwhile, Detroit was able to score off of KC right-hander Michael Wacha four times in the fifth inning, alone.
Detroit broke the scoreless drought with a Jake Rogers triple to center field, which plated two runs. That alone would've been enough, but the Tigers added on three more over the course of the next four innings.
Overall, the Royals got out-hit 9-4, going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
After entering the day just 2.0 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the last American League Wild Card spot, Kansas City now sits 3.0 games out.
Up next - Quatraro and his team will stay at Kauffman Stadium to host the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 6:40 p.m.
