KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Chiefs are turning the page to the 2025 NFL regular season.

Despite a sharp performance from its first-team units, Kansas City (0-3) allowed three fourth-quarter touchdowns to Chicago (2-0-1), leading to a 29-27 loss to close out the preseason. With Friday's defeat, the Chiefs finished their preseason schedule without a win for a second straight year.

After playing just 48 combined seconds in Kansas City's first two preseason games, quarterback Patrick Mahomes got to guide the first-team offense on three possessions in Friday's contest and scored points on each of them. The Chiefs constructed an 8-play, 69-yard touchdown drive on their opening possession, culminating with 2-yard run into the end zone from running back Isiah Pacheco. From there, Mahomes connected with wide receiver Tyquan Thornton for a 58-yard catch, which helped set up a 31-yard field goal from kicker Harrison Butker, and led an 81-yard drive on his third and final possession, highlighted by a 4-yard touchdown reception to wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Mahomes finished the game 8-for-13 with 143 passing yards and one touchdown. While the first-team offense was on the field, the Chiefs scored 17 points and gained 231 total yards.

Thornton (58), Rice (13) and tight end Travis Kelce (32) combined for five catches and 103 receiving yards in the first 15 minutes of action.

Defensively, Kansas City held Chicago to just one field goal for 29:32 of game time. During that stretch, defensive tackle Chris Jones and defensive end Charles Omenihu combined for one sack, and the Chiefs allowed just 83 yards of total offense.

Up next - Kansas City will begin preparation for its Week 1 road trip to Brazil. The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Chargers at Corinthians Arena in their season opener on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
