Tracking a few storms tonight and Tuesday before heat returns

TONIGHT: Scattered storms and partly cloudy with lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy with highs in the mid-80s and a chance for a few storms, especially along I-44.

EXTENDED: Storms have started to fire up again across northwest and western Missouri, and will bring the potential for heavy rain and isolated strong wind gusts into this evening. Scattered storms are possible farther east overnight, with a lull in activity for early Tuesday. As the front finally begins progressing southeast Tuesday into Wednesday, we'll see a chance of a few storms both afternoons. Behind the front, we'll get a slight cool down and reprieve from the humidity, but it doesn't last long. High pressure begins to build in the upper levels, sending the jet stream to the north. At the surface, high pressure will be focused to our southeast, bringing southeasterly winds to the area, increasing temperatures and dew points. The end of the week into the weekend will be sweltering again with highs in the low 90s and a heat index in the low 100s.
