Mizzou maintains urgency, enters week two of fall camp
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou's student-athletes remain locked in position battles after the first week of fall camp.
The Tigers wrapped up their sixth practice in seven days on Sunday afternoon at the Mizzou Athletics Training Complex ahead of their first scrimmage.
MU has five practices scheduled for the second week of fall camp, including two scrimmages. Those simulated games, which will take place on Monday and Saturday, will begin to reveal the frontrunners of the team's position battles.
"[We] won't know much until we get through this scrimmage on Monday, and then go from there," head coach Eli Drinkwitz said about the ongoing quarterback competition at Saturday's media session.
At the same time, Coach Drinkwitz said there's still several areas his team needs to clean up, and everyone still has to earn the right to be named a starter ahead of Week 1.
"I don't think anybody's starting jobs are cemented after whatever practice this is," Drinkwitz said. "[Saturday], the defense had a chance to get off the field twice and had two penalties that extended drives, which led to touchdowns. That's the kind of stuff that gets you beat. It's not really technique or fundamentals. It's discipline stuff. We got to get that off the tape. Offensively, we've got to be more consistent protecting, especially on third downs, and then, take care of the football."
Select student-athletes are scheduled to address the media about fall camp on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
