Tracking one last full day of heat ahead of Wednesday’s cold front
TODAY: Tuesday is one last day of extreme heat areawide, and an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. We expect mostly sunny skies and highs in the 90s. Humidity is thick enough to have us feeling like 106-110 through the afternoon.
TONIGHT: We'll stay warm overnight, but by sunrise, we'll be watching a complex of storms across far northern Missouri and southern Iowa.
EXTENDED: This complex of storms will be tied to a cold front that moves in through the day. Scattered storms will be possible from morning to the evening. There will be plenty of dry time ahead of the front, allowing for another hot day generally south of I-70. However, this will largely depend on the timing of rain and the front. Heat will be short lived for many. Storms are unlikely to be severe, with this system's ingredients a bit out of sync for most of us. If we can get enough shear and instability in the same spot, we may be able to get an isolated strong storm or two, but this seems unlikely at present. Rain is likely north of I-70 in the morning, precluding heat for these areas. Areas in the south will get relief during the afternoon. Thursday is much cooler, with clouds and morning shower chances. We expect highs in the 70s Thursday through Saturday. We'll have more sunshine to enjoy with the cooler air Friday and Saturday. Sunday into Monday, temperatures climb into the 80s, but remain below average.
