Tracking some chance at short-lived heat wave relief

TODAY: Wednesday is another ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as we have potential for heat indices near 105 this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. For the latest on this heat wave, read our online ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. Highs will reach low 90s, however there is confidence that humidity will be generally lower today. We expect that to keep us from reach the same level of heat as Tuesday afternoon.

TONIGHT: Skies remain mostly clear overnight, and temperatures remain warm, in the mid-70s at sunrise.

EXTENDED: Thursday starts mostly sunny, but as a cold front to our northwest inches near, clouds will increase by late morning. This will be very thin cloud cover at first, but become thicker with time. We expect this to have an impact on heat indices in the north west, but others near Columbia and southward will have potential to feel as warm as 105+. This front will move in and bring rain chances by the dinner hour in the north, with rain chances dropping south into the overnight. Not all will see rain, however, as rain chances likely hold around I-70 and northward into Friday. This will likely bring enough rain chance and cloud cover to the region to keep most of us below 105 heat indices, so we have dropped the ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day designation for Friday. Heat will try to build back on Saturday, but we may stay just below 105 heat index with lingering clouds. Better chances for sunshine and heat return Sunday through Tuesday, as heat indices above 105 look likely each day.
