Mizzou shortstop gets selected in the 16th round of MLB Draft

Mizzou baseball saw its first name get taken off the board in the 2025 MLB Draft, on Monday.

Tiger shortstop Jackson Lovich heard his named called, as he got selected by the New York Yankees in the 16th round, with the No. 494 overall pick. The Overland Park, Kansas native just wrapped up his junior season in Columbia, but could still chose to return for his final year, if he doesn't sign a deal with the Yankees.

Despite a rough year for Mizzou in the win/loss column, Lovich had a big third season in the black and gold. All in all, he hit he .357 with a team-best 51 RBI and 12 home runs. But, he's been a mainstay for MU over the years, breaking out in his sophomore season.

In 2024, he started in all 46 of his appearances for the Tigers. He led the team in runs batted in and triples, while ranking second on the squad in total bases, hits, home runs and on-base percentage.

Lovich will have to make a decision on what his next steps will by be July 28. If he doesn't sign his contract, he can return for the 2026 season in Columbia.
