Tracking more heat and humidity ahead of Friday night storms

TODAY: Thursday will feel slightly warmer with a return to a light south breeze marking the return of near 90 highs and slightly high humidity. We'll feel like mid-90s through the afternoon. The day is largely dry, but a complex of storms ongoing near Omaha early this morning may send a shower or two into our northern communities by late morning. This complex will weaken rapidly through the morning, and may not bring rain to mid-Missouri at all. Our best chance will be through midday north of HWY 24, and even then showers will be light and short lived. The remnants from this complex will likely stir a shower or storm later in the day to our northeast, but the likelihood of this happening this far south is very low. Skies are partly cloudy with plenty of sunshine to have you reaching for the sunscreen today. Our UV index is forecast at a 10 today, meaning you may sunburn in 15-20 minutes.

TONIGHT: Skies clear overnight, and temperatures hover near 70 through the early morning hours.

EXTENDED: Friday is warmer, feeling like near 100 through the heat of the day. Isolated storms may pop up in the late afternoon, but the day is largely partly cloudy and dry. We'll see better storm chances by the evening, as a cold front drops in from the northwest. The strongest storms may be capable of wind, hail, and tornadoes near the front before sunset. The current timing shows the greatest risk for this near Brunswick to Macon, with a lesser threat for primarily gusty winds sticking with storms as they move southeast into the late evening. The front will stall on Saturday, keeping rain chances in the forecast for Saturday afternoon. More small rain chances hit the forecast each day from Sunday through Tuesday.
