Royals shutout Diamondbacks to claim series victory

KMIZ

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals got back into the series win column for the first time since June 20, with a 4-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, in Sunday's rubber match.

The victory came courtesy of a stellar, seven-inning out from starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen. The left-hander struck out seven batters in a dominant performance to improve to 5-8 on the season. He allowed just two hits and only issued one walk.

Arizona had three hits and did not get a runner past second base to lose for the fourth time in five games.

Lorenzen's outing on the bump was complimented by timely hitting for skipper Matt Quatraro's team. Both Bobby Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez homered in the fourth inning, while John Rave and Kyle Isbel each registered an RBI single in the fifth.

Up next - the Royals will be back in action on Monday, July 7 to start up a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch in the series opener is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
