Tracking hazardous heat persisting into the week

TODAY: Sunny and humid with temperatures in the low 90s and the heat index in the upper 90s to 100 degrees. Winds from the southwest remain gusty up to 30 mph.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and just as hot with the heat index close to 100 degrees.

EXTENDED: A cold front is expected to stall north of the area late on Monday, positioning itself on the edge of the heat dome. This will keep significant rain chances just out of reach early in the week. While pop-up showers are possible on Tuesday, the likelihood remains very low. High temperatures and high humidity will continue, with the heat index approaching 100 degrees through Thursday. However, from Thursday onward, the chances for showers and storms will improve as the heat dome shifts eastward and begins to break down. It may take until the end of the week for temperatures to drop below 90 degrees.
