Missouri Reign ready for exhibition with Kansas City Current II

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Reign have earned the opportunity to play on a grand stage.

Head Coach Dakota Acock's club is preparing to travel to CPKC Stadium to face the Kansas City Current II in a closed exhibition on Monday night.

"It's a great opportunity for our program. It's a testament to how hard the girls have worked," Acock said. "For the Kansas City Current's reserve team to pick us up as a match, you got to have a little bit of quality to your play, and so, our girls have worked hard over the past couple of years. It's a good program win for us, regardless of the result."

The Missouri Reign are in the midst of their second season since uniting with AFC Columbia in October 2023. The semi-professional soccer team has already grown tremendously, and it is making a name for itself in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). Now, the young club can add this game to its list of achievements.

"It just goes back to how hard the girls have worked," Acock said. "Not everybody gets an opportunity to play in that stadium. Not everybody gets an opportunity to play that team. I think that if we go out there and we have fun with it and we get better from it, that's all we can take away from it. I'll be happy with that, and I'm sure they will too."

The match, which is not open to the general public, is scheduled to begin on June 16 at 6:30 p.m.
