Mid-Missouri athletes win state titles, wrap up 2025 MSHSAA Track & Field Championships

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mid-Missouri has added more state champions to its 2025 MSHSAA Track & Field Championships résumé.

Across 74 events, local talent took the top step of the podium nine times at the grand finale of this year's state championships. Central Missouri athletes also accounted for 50 state medals at Adkins Stadium on Saturday.

One of Mid-Missouri's state champions was crowned twice on the last day of competition. Tolton's Elyse Wilmes won Class 4 state titles in both the 1600-meter run (4:53.13) and 800-meter dash (2:07.52), representing her second and third championships of the weekend. Wilmes became a four-time state champion in the 800-meter run and clinched her third straight state title in the 1600-meter race.

Additionally, two more local athletes also captured back-to-back state crowns. Capital City's Tyrica Sterrett ended her senior season with two consecutive state championships in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.71 seconds. Osage's Landon Childs is also a a back-to-back state title winner, following a 4.54-meter effort.

Central Missouri saw plenty of success but shined the most in the 4x200 relays. Rock Bridge's team of Riley Rolwing, Carter Atkinson, Brennan Scott and Drevyn Seamon broke the overall Missouri state record enroute to a Class 5 state title, tallying a 1:25.13 time which was 0.37-seconds faster than the previous record holder. Helias' team of Deaven Duemmel, Kenadi Harrison, Corynn Frank and Isla Alfultis also defeated the field in photo finish fashion, winning the Class 4 state championship by just two-hundredths of a second (1:41.14)

Jefferson City's Lillian Davis concluded her 2025 campaign as a state champion at her home stadium. Davis dominated the competition in the Class 5 Girls Shot Put by 0.71-meters (13.53) and was the only athlete to surpass the 13-meter threshold with an attempt.

Finally, a pair of underclassmen also brought home the gold for the first time in their young high school careers. Hickman's John Moss set a new Class 5 state record in the 200-meter dash to take first place with a 21.06-second effort while Battle's Xavier Wandrey won the high jump in Class 5 with a meet-best 2.01-meter leap. Both of those Columbia athletes are sophomores.

However, Mid-Missouri's schools also excelled as teams. Rock Bridge (46) and Helias (45) both earned team trophies with third place finishes in the Class 5 Boys and Class 4 Girls competitions, respectively. The Bruins have finished top four at state on nine different occasions while the Crusaders have accomplished the same mission in 13 different seasons.
