Tracking a quiet trend ahead of cool and rainy conditions for Memorial Day Weekend
TODAY: Thursday is slightly cooler as we continue to feel the increasing influence of a cooler airmass moving in from the north. A relatively strong area of high pressure will continue to drift in from the north over the next 24 hours. Preceded by northwest winds, the approaching high has us breezy and cool, in the 60s today amid a 10-15 mph wind with gusts again in the 20-30 mph range. Some low clouds will circle into the northeast as departing low pressure still has some influence, but we expect a mostly sunny day before these clouds arrive this afternoon.
TONIGHT: Clear and relatively calm conditions will allow for temperatures to fall into the mid-40s locally, with some isolated spots in the low 40s. We will avoid any chance at frost, but this will still be very cool for the season.
EXTENDED: On the west side of the high we will pull in some east, if not southeasterly flow. This will allow us to warm to near 70 on Friday, but we'll likely stay dry. Well be just on the cool side of an approaching warm front to the west. This may cast clouds our way through the day, and even a chance for a few showers by Friday afternoon. This will be the start of a wet Memorial Day Weekend. The weekend looks wet, but it won't be a washout for all. We are not yet close enough to distinguish dry time through the weekend, but as moisture works in from the west, locations in the east will likely have plenty of dry time Friday night and Saturday morning. Temperatures will be notably cool Saturday through Monday. Each day, we expect highs in the mid-60s. Technically Sunday looks like a wetter day, but generally speaking both days bring chances for scattered to widespread showers and storms. We are closely watching the evolution of this system, as it brings a warm front nearby. Any chance for severe weather looks very low at this point, and is expected to remain mostly south. Stay tuned to the forecast for more on this, and potential dry time as we approach the weekend.
