Six-run ninth inning lifts Mizzou baseball to first SEC win of 2025

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KMIZ)
The Mizzou baseball team is no longer winless in Southeastern Conference action.
On Friday night, the Tigers opened up their three-game set against Texas A&M with a 9-6 win over the Aggies to snap a conference losing streak that has stretched the course of the 2025 season. It is the first time in 356 days that skipper Kerrick Jackson and company have gotten a mark in the win column in SEC play, following an 0-24 run in league action in 2025.
MU trailed Texas A&M 6-3 heading into the ninth inning, but Jackson Lovich provided the first spark at the plate. With the bases loaded and nobody out, the junior laid down an infield single to cut the deficit to two runs. From there, sophomore Kaden Peer called tie game with a two RBI double down the first base line.
With everyone sitting at six runs apiece, it was a true freshman who pushed the Tigers over the top. Chris Patterson's grounder with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth brought in the go-ahead runs for his team, giving them a three-run lead over the Aggies.
In the bottom of the ninth, Mizzou didn't leave a doubt. Pitcher Xavier Lovett and his defense ended the game with a three up, three down inning, which all came to a close with a game-clinching catch from Cayden Nicoletto in right field.
Lovett earned his second win on the hill this season, thanks to his 2.0 innings of work. He didn't allow any hits or runs.
At the dish, Lovich led the charge for MU going 2-for-5 with a team-leading three RBI on the night. Peer was right behind him with two RBI of his own.
With the win, Jackson and company improved 1-24 in Southeastern Conference action and 14-35 overall.
Up next - Mizzou will look to clinch its first SEC series win of the season in game two, on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. in College Station.
