Tracking a cool but dry weekend
TODAY: Friday will be another one with plenty of dry time bookended by rain chances. Some showers will be possible, especially in the south from 7 a.m. to noon. This will leave many along and north of I-70 dry, but a chance for thunderstorms comes along a cold front shortly after noon in the west. This should bring most a chance for rain and thunder as it sweeps from west to east through the afternoon. Peak intensity of these showers and thunderstorms should be as they enter the viewing area near HWY 65 in the west, as this will correlate with best afternoon instability. These are not expected to be severe, even at their strongest. In fact, the trend for these will be to weaken with time and eastward extent. The biggest impact will be isolated pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall, but most will only see light rain. Most rain totals are expected to remain below a quarter inch.
TONIGHT: Behind the front, we'll have some weak showers trickle through the region. Rain tapers off overnight, leaving us dry but overcast through Saturday morning.
EXTENDED: We'll have a spot 20% chance for light showers under clouds Saturday, but this will be mostly east of HWY 63 where clouds will be stubborn and tough to shake. This will leave most partly cloudy and dry Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures continue to trend cool for the weekend, settling near 60° on Saturday and only in the low 60s Sunday. After a dry and mild day on Monday near 70°, we expect rain chances to return. We'll warm into a more active pattern with daily rain chances Tuesday evening through Thursday.
