Chiefs complete NFL Draft with seven selections

The Chiefs have added three more players to their 2025 NFL Draft class.

Kansas City drafted Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals, Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa and SMU running back Brashard Smith on the final day of the NFL Draft, rounding out its group of seven rookies.

Royals adds some competition to Kansas City's wide receiver room, which features Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster at the top of the depth chart. The 6-foot-0, 205-pound talent was excellent in his final two seasons at the college level, combining for 1,914 yards and 21 touchdowns. Despite suffering a season-ending injury last year, the two-time All-Mountain West honoree posted 55 catches for 834 receiving yards and six touchdowns in just seven games in his final campaign at Utah State.

Bassa also brings some depth to the Chiefs at the linebacker position, joining Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound prospect was a consistent contributor for four years at Oregon, making at least 13 appearances and hitting the 45-tackle threshold every season. Arguably, Bassa's best campaign was his senior season with the Ducks, tallying 55 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed.

Veach traded up in the NFL Draft to choose Bassa, swapping fifth-round selections and handing over a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also moved up the draft board to select Smith, giving up the team's No. 251 and No. 257 overall picks to the New England Patriots.

Smith, who set the single-season record for all-purpose yards (1,977) at SMU last season, was a first-team All-ACC selection and a third-team AP All-American. The 5-foot-10, 196-pound running back rushed for 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns over 14 games during the 2024 campaign, and he also tallied 39 receptions for 327 yards through the air, including four receiving touchdowns.
