Mizzou softball earns second win over No. 1 team to avoid a sweep

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

For the second time in the 2025 campaign, Mizzou softball has toppled the No. 1 team in the land.

On Friday afternoon, the Tigers run-ruled No. 1 Texas A&M 9-1 in five innings to avoid getting swept at home. The loss snapped the Aggies' 14-game winning streak, which dated back to the middle of March.

Sophomore Stefania Abruscato played hero for MU in the fifth, when she laid a ball down into right field to plate the game-winning, walk-off run. However, senior Kara Daly led the charge for her team at the dish, as she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run and one home run.

Senior Julia Crenshaw went perfect at the plate, on Friday. She hit a leadoff home run in the first inning to get the scoring started and proceeded to end up with a 3-for-3 day. In total, five Tigers drove in runs in the victory.

In the circle, the duo of Cierra Harrison and Marissa McCann combined to allow just one run.

Harrison got tabbed for the start and went 3.0 innings, striking out one batter and allowing just one run on six hits. After her exit, McCann came in in relief to finish out the game. She struck out one batter and only allowed one hit.

With the win, Mizzou improved to 23-26 overall and 4-14 in Southeastern Conference play.

Up next - Coach Anderson and company will head to Tuscaloosa to face No. 17 Alabama. The first game of the series will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
