Insider Blog: High fire danger on Monday

The fire risk will be high across Mid-Missouri on Monday as gusty winds and warm temperatures pick up to start the work week.

A dry air mass from the northwest is settling into the region following Saturday's cold front, dropping relative humidity to 20-30% across the region.

High pressure moves through the area Sunday night into Monday, allowing winds to shift back to the southwest and gust up to 30-35 mph at times.

Given the lack of measurable rain over the area and sustained drought conditions, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for much of Mid-Missouri and the state on Monday. Avoid any burning or tossing cigarette butts. Pour water over charcoal before disposing.

Several Mid-Missouri fire departments were busy fighting wildfires that encroached on homes and businesses in Camden County on Friday with strong winds across the area before storms hit. Boone County first responders fought a large fire near Hartsburg that forced those in the area to evacuate to Ashland.
