No injuries reported in Mexico house fire

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

No injuries were reported in a house fire Saturday afternoon in Mexico, Missouri, according to a Monday press release from the Mexico Department of Public Safety.

The release says first responders were called at 1:37 p.m. Saturday to the 1500 block of Kent Road. Residents told dispatchers that the house was filling with smoke from an unknown source, the release says.

The fire was found in a utility room in the basement and was extinguished, the release says. The room had moderate fire and water damage. The release says the fire was started “in the area of a recently washed pile of laundry covering an old electronic device similar to a Blackberry.”
