COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A family whose lifetime worth of belongings was taken from a hotel parking lot over the weekend said police found their vehicle and trailer.

Madeline Kazantzis, along with her husband and two children, were moving from North Carolina to Colorado. Security footage caught their trailer and car being stolen as they stayed at the Drury Plaza hotel on Interstate 70 Drive on Saturday night.

Kazantzis said the trailer was found overnight Monday at a Super 8 motel just over 2 miles away from the Drury Plaza hotel. The stolen car, a black 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, was found about 40 miles away Monday morning near Jefferson City.

Kazantzis said most of the stuff in the trailer and car was stolen.

"They only left about an eighth of it. Just my son's toys, so he was happy, but they didn't leave anything else. They took electronics, jewelry, and clothing; things of value, obviously," Kazantzis said.

Though she hopes the community can help her family find all of the stolen belongings, she is most concerned about her hard drive with irreplaceable photos and videos of the family. Kazantzis described it as a silver Seagate external hard drive that is about the size of a hand.

There is also a GoFundMe page set up for the family.

"We're still missing a lot of items," Kazantzis said. "It's just going to take some time to recoup everything."
