COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 34-year-old Moberly man remained in the Randolph County Jail on Monday after being charged with carjacking over the weekend.

Michael J. Davis was charged Sunday with carjacking, vehicle theft and third-degree domestic assault after allegedly taking a van with children inside that was parked in front of Little Caesar's.

The probable cause statement says a woman was sitting in the van with her children Saturday when Davis rode up on one of the children's bicycles, got inside the van and hit her. The woman then got out to get away from Davis, according to the statement.

Davis then got behind the wheel and drove away, the statement says.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol found Bethel at his parents' home in Shelby County near Bethel, Missouri. The statement says Davis admitted to getting in the van and driving away with the children inside. He dropped one child, a non-relative, off on the way, the statement says.

Davis was jailed on a $100,000 cash-only bond. No hearings have been set in his case.
