Mizzou’s Helen Hu wins second-straight SEC Specialist of the Week award

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

For the second time in two weeks, Mizzou gymnastics standout Helen Hu was crowned the SEC Specialist of the Week.

On Monday, the Southeastern Conference announced that Hu had earned the honor for the second-consecutive week, following a near-perfect performance on the balance beam in the Tigers' win over No. 6 Kentucky, on Sunday. In that meet, Hu scored a 9.975 in her big return to the Hearnes Center, which helped MU beat UK by a margin of 197.200-196.800.

The Illinois-native is no stranger to grabbing some weekly conference honors, though. She actually won the SEC Specialist of the Week award twice in 2020 and even ended up being named the conference Specialist of the Year in that season, as well.

Hu is one of five gymnasts in the country, in 2025, to score a 9.975 on the beam this season. She is still the only one to score a perfect 10.000 on the event, though, after being the first gymnast in the 2025 season, nationally, to achieve perfection in the meet against Oklahoma.

Up next - Hu and No. 11 Mizzou will travel to meet the defending national champions in Baton Rouge. The Tigers will face No. 2 LSU on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
