Columbia teenager killed in southern Boone County crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A teenager was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday night on Highway 63, near Claysville Road in southern Boone County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to an MSHP crash report, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala – driven by an 18-year-old man from Columbia – was heading southbound when it went off the right side of the, hit a tree and overturned. The teenager was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, the report says.

The report states that he was not wearing a seatbelt, the report says. The teenager’s body was brought to the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The car was totaled.

The teen was a 2024 Rock Bridge High School graduate, a Columbia Public Schools spokesperson said.

MSHP Troop F – which covers much of Mid-Missouri – tweeted that one vehicle was involved in the crash. The crash occurred in the southbound lane of Highway 63 near Claysville Road, the post says.

The scene began to clear about 8:42 p.m.

“At 6:35p.m., fire district units were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision near Highway 63 and Claysville road. Upon arrival, firefighters found one vehicle on its side in the trees,” the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District wrote in a Monday evening social media post. “Ashland Missouri Police Department Officers, who arrived first, were already working the scene. Firefighters quickly stabilized the vehicle and coordinated with Officers and EMS team to secure the scene while working on the patient. Despite medical efforts the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.”
