Mizzou’s Helen Hu named SEC Specialist of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou gymnastics standout Helen Hu has been named the SEC Specialist of the Week, following a career performance in the meet against No. 1 Oklahoma.
Hu posted the first perfect 10.000 of the 2025 NCAA gymnastics season with her balance beam routine in Norman on Friday. She currently ranks 11th nationally in average beam score through the first three weeks of the season.
The perfect mark was the first of Hu's illustrious career, as the feat was made even more impressive by the fact that the redshirt senior did not compete in 2024. She took one year off to travel and backpack through Asian and South American countries, before announcing her big return ahead of the 2025 campaign.
The Illinois-native has come close to achieving a perfect 10.000 before, scoring at least a 9.95 on the beam on 15 different occasions.
It is the third time in her career that Hu has won the SEC Specialist of the Week honor and the firsts time since 2020. That was the same season that she won the conference's Specialist of the Year award.
As a program, Mizzou has had seven gymnasts score a perfect 10.000 in an event and four, specifically, on the beam . Hu is the first one to do it since alum Sienna Schreiber in March of 2024. Before last season, the perfect mark had not been accomplished since the 2004 campaign.
Up next - Hu and the Tigers will host its first meet inside the Hearnes Center in the 2025 campaign when No. 8 Kentucky comes to town for the SEC opener. The meet is set to start at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26.
