MSHP investigating deputy-involved shooting after standoff in Pulaski County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is helping the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office investigate an officer-involved shooting that happened Wednesday night in Richland.

Deputies shot the suspect -- who authorities have not named -- after responding to a domestic assault call on North Pine Street and finding a victim, according to the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office and highway patrol say a man shot at deputies and they returned fire, hitting him in the abdomen.

The man was flown to University Hospital.

Officers found a victim with a gunshot wound to the arm when they got to the scene at about 5:30 p.m., the Richland Police Department wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday. The victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

After the man shot at deputies, they fired back, authorities say. The man went back inside and a five-hour standoff ensued before he surrendered and was flown to the hospital.

No one else was hurt.

The Patrol says in a news release that its Division of Drug and Crime Control is helping the sheriff's office in its investigation.
