ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police are searching for one suspect after a uniformed police officer was shot in Ferguson, Missouri Sunday evening.

The St. Louis County Police Department said the officer was shot while in a Walmart. The officer attempted to stop a shoplifter, police said, who then shot the officer multiple times.

The officer was transported with gunshot wounds to the arms and possibly the torso. The officer was wearing a bullet-proof vest and is expected to recover.

The officer did not fire his weapon during the incident, according to police.

The suspect fled the scene and is currently at-large, police told reporters Sunday evening.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson tweeted his support for the officer.
