Columbia park shooting suspect charged with assault
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man remained in jail Monday on two felony charges after his arrest last week in connection with a daylight shooting in a park.
Marlon McCraney, 51, was picked up by police Friday, according to the Columbia Police Department. Charges were filed later that day of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. McCraney is accused of shooting a woman in the leg at Columbia's Douglass Park on Nov. 10.
The woman's injuries were not life-threatening, police said at the time.
Surveillance video shows a man matching McCraney's description talking or arguing with a woman at a park pavilion before shooting her, according to a probable cause statement. Police discovered his name because McCraney bought sunflower seeds at Schnucks and used his rewards, the statement says.
McCraney is a felon and is not legally allowed to have guns.
McCraney was in the Boone County Jail on Monday without bond. No hearings have been set in his case.
