COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boone County grand jury indicted a Springfield, Missouri, man Friday with murder in a local crash.
The documents were unsealed in Boone County court on Monday.
Carl D. Simon was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated fleeing from police in connection with the Dec. 7 crash on Hinkson Creek Road.
A deputy tried to stop a vehicle for a registration violation on Clark Lane and Ballenger Lane. The vehicle did not stop and the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, the sheriff's office says.
According to a social media post from the sheriff's office, the driver of the vehicle led deputies on a chase around the Columbia area before crashing in some woods on Hinkson Creek Road.
A 32-year-old passenger was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead. Authorities still have not given the passenger's name.
The grand jury complaint does not give details about why Simon is a suspect.
Simon was arrested Monday in Columbia, Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson said. Simon was in the Boone County Jail on Monday without bond.
Simon's record includes convictions for drug dealing, robbery and domestic assault.
