A 17-year-old has been charged with three felonies for allegedly shooting at a woman and her children in the parking lot of Academy Sports this summer.

Myron S. Mills of Columbia was charged Friday with first-degree attempted assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the July 6 shooting outside the sporting goods store.

The victim told police that she saw shots hitting the pavement around her after a black vehicle pulled away from the parking lot, according to a probable cause statement. Officers found 9mm shell casings on a crosswalk in front of Academy, the statement says.

The victim said a black sedan was parked next to her when she pulled up at the store and then someone inside shot at her, the statement says. Investigators used surveillance video to identify Mills as the shooting suspect.

Mills was in the Boone County Jail on Friday afternoon without bond.

Boone County prosecutor Roger Johnson said Mills was certified to stand trial as an adult Friday.
