COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

School of the Osage has canceled all Thursday night activities and home athletic events after a threat was phone into its middle school, the district wrote in a Thursday afternoon social media post.

"Today at 2:58 PM, our middle school received a phoned-in threat to the building. Immediately upon receiving the information we contacted local law enforcement, which prompted heavy police and extra administrative presence throughout the parking lot and building," the post says. "In conjunction with law enforcement, a safe dismissal took place. Out of an abundance of caution, students were instructed to wait for their rides inside the building. Due to the adjusted dismissal procedure, all district buses were slightly delayed. Additionally, out of an abundance of caution, all School of the Osage home athletics and activities for this evening are canceled."

The district wrote on its Facebook page that it is working with law enforcement as it investigates the threat and that updates will be provided.

The school district previously experienced a threat in May 2023 that led to classes to be held online.

ABC 17 News has reached out to the school district and the Osage Beach Police Department.

The school’s athletic website says that a girls basketball game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. at home.

The district updated its post at 7:32 p.m. saying that school will be in session as planned. There will be a police presence at the middle school as a precaution, the school wrote.

The district's calendar states that Friday is the last day before the school's holiday break.

Check back for updates.
