Second suspect in Clark Lane killing charged with murder; another man in custody now charged with murder

Prosecutors charged a man Tuesday with murder for his alleged role in a deadly October shooting and charged another man -- who was already in custody and charged -- with murder.
Daevion McCray, 21, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of Orrion Moody, 28, of Columbia. Police found Moody with gunshot wounds in the 3900 block of Clark Lane on Oct. 20, police said Tuesday in a news release.
Moody was rushed to the hospital where he died a few days later.
Prosecutors charged McCray with second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and a count of illegal weapon use -- all felonies.
A probable cause statement says video put McCray at the scene of the shooting, as did cellphone geolocating. Investigators also claim to have found a gun at the scene that they matched to McCray.
Tavion Johnson, 19, was arrested two days after the shooting.
Prosecutors on Tuesday charged Johnson with second-degree felony murder, two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He was initially charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and illegal weapon use. Investigators previously indicated that they were pursuing upgraded charges following Moody's death.
A court date has not been set for the new charges. Johnson is being held at the jail without bond.
According to Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson, the prosecutor's office waited to amend the charges until after McCray was arrested to protect the investigation.
"One of the co-defendants was at large and so that's a factor anytime we make changes," Johnson said. "We want to make sure that we're keeping law enforcement safe when they come into contact with the person and make sure that the person doesn't necessarily know and have an opportunity to dispose of evidence or potentially react violently if they come in contact with law enforcement."
Witnesses described multiple people opening fire on a home the night of the shooting. A woman called police saying her mobile home had been shot and officers found several bullet holes and shell casings, a probable cause statement says. Police found a man wounded by gunfire, cars hit by bullets and casings from multiple guns, the statement says.
A judge granted Johnson a bond reduction Monday.
McCray does not have any hearings set. He was listed on the Boone County jail roster Tuesday evening. The probable cause statement says he left the state immediately after the shooting.
