Arizona grand jury indicts pair for alleged school voucher fraud
Associated Press/Report for America
PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona grand jury has indicted two out-of-state residents for allegedly applying to the state’s private school voucher program as parents to 50 children — 43 of whom did not exist. The office of Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes says the pair submitted false, fraudulent and forged documents over about 16 months to benefit from the Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account program. Mayes says the two received over $110,000 and spent it on personal living expenses. They were charged with multiple felony counts, including conspiracy, fraud and forgery. The Associated Press left voice messages Monday seeking comment from the pair at publicly listed numbers.
