Tracking rain chances returning by Thanksgiving
TODAY: Monday is cloudy, with a northwest wind sustained around 10-15 mph, gusting to 20-30 mph at times. High temperatures have already been recorded, as temps are expected to fall through the morning, and plateau in the 40s this afternoon. With winds, we may feel as cool as 30s.
TONIGHT: Clouds clear overnight, as high pressure calms winds. Expect temperatures in the 20s, and steam fog near waterways like the lakes and the Missouri river. A glaze of ice may be possible on elevated objects in this fog with such cold temperatures. Use caution on walkways near the water.
EXTENDED: High pressure leaves through the day Tuesday, returning winds from the south, and diving temperatures back into the mid-to-upper 40s. By Tuesday night, we'll have high clouds reaching in ahead of our next system that is slated for Wednesday. Showers will be possible as soon as the morning on Wednesday, but better chances for rain fill in by the evening. This event looks to be mostly rain, with the bulk of the moisture focused in the south, from the Lake of the Ozarks to Rolla - north to Jefferson City and Columbia. There is still some uncertainty with this system regarding snow potential, however trends have been favoring rain lately. Currently, confidence is highest in a scenario where we pick up only rain on Thursday. Still, there's a low chance that a few snow flakes try to mix in on the north side as moisture is leaving late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The big impact from this system will be the arctic air that fills in over the weekend, dropping our highs into the 30s.
