Hollywood to fashion, dogs to sports. Coffee table books are great options for holiday gifts. That’s especially true for gift recipients with specific interests. And it’s also true if you’re stumped on what to buy as a gift. Large-format, visually driven books are abundant at holiday time. This year, for instance, publisher Taschen is out with a sweeping two-volume opus spanning the stars who fueled the film industry from 1935 to 1972. Women’s Wear Daily reached deep into its photo archive to illustrate a book focused on Black voices in fashion. Canadian birder and photographer Melissa Hafting explores the joy and comfort of her winged subjects, especially in hard times.
