Tracking widespread rain overnight into Monday, storms Monday evening

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain moving in from the southwest late. Lows in the upper 50s.

TOMORROW: Cloudy with rain through much of the morning. We'll have a break during the day, but wind gusts could get higher than 35 mph at times. Storms moving in by early evening. A few cloud be strong with damaging winds. Highs in the upper 60s.

EXTENDED: Rain to the southwest continues to stream in late tonight, becoming widespread through daybreak. The first swath of rain moves to our north by about midday, giving us a break from heavy rain for a few hours. This break may allow for the atmosphere to recover ahead of the cold front, but we'll also see strong gusty winds up to 40 mph. The strong winds in combination with the potential for instability to grow could point at a chance for a few strong storms by early evening. The threat is low, but the main concern would be an isolated wind gust up to 60 mph and/or a weak tornado or two. Storms quickly lose energy after the sun goes down, and we'll be dry by midnight. Rain amounts will total between 1-1.5". Tuesday is windy and a little cooler behind the front, with wind gusts to 30 mph. Strong low pressure will drop down to our east between Wednesday and Friday, bringing a big cool down and perhaps a few clouds. Most of the precipitation looks to stay east of us through the end of the week. Highs will make the mid-40s with lows falling to near or just below freezing through the weekend.
