Pulaski County substitute teacher accused of plying kids with drugs, alcohol, money for sex
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A former substitute school teacher and paraprofessional for a Pulaski County school district was charged last week with 19 felony counts related to child sex crime allegations.
Carissa J. Smith of Dixon, Missouri, faces charges including statutory rape, statutory sodomy, child sex trafficking and paying a child for sex. Smith was in the Pulaski County Jail on Wednesday on $250,000 bond.
Smith worked in the Dixon School District but resigned in August.
The investigation began in September when detectives interviewed a victim who said they had been coerced into sex with Smith -- including her supplying marijuana, alcohol and money -- on multiple occasions, according to a probable cause statement.
The probable cause statement identifies at least five victims of Smith's alleged crimes. The first incident happened last year, the victim interviewed in September allegedly told investigators.
