Mizzou moves up one spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Following a dramatic win over Oklahoma over the weekend, the Mizzou football team moved up one spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, coming in at No. 23.

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company are one of nine Southeastern Conference teams that appeared in the second playoff rankings of the season.

In fact, MU's next opponent made the Top-25, as well. The Tigers will have quite a battle on their hands on Saturday, when they face No. 21 South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia East. Kickoff is slated for 3:15 p.m.

Mizzou will head into that game 7-2 overall in 2024 and fresh off of a renewed rivalry win over the Oklahoma Sooners. The storyline heading into Saturday's matchup with the Gamecocks will, undoubtedly, be who will be starting at quarterback for MU.

Starter Brady Cook did not play against the Sooners, as he's been dealing with a couple of injuries. Instead, backup Drew Pyne got the start and led the Tigers to a comeback win in a three-touchdown, more than 140 yard performance.

On Tuesday, Drinkwitz said his team will prepare for Pyne to be the starter against South Carolina, but they will learn more about Cook's status later in the week.
