Mizzou women’s basketball falls in season opener against Vermont
BURLINGTON, Vermont (KMIZ)
The Mizzou women's basketball team did not open up the 2024-25 campaign in the win column on opening night. The Tigers fell to Vermont 62-46, marking the Catamounts' first-ever win over an SEC program.
Sophomore guard Grace Slaughter led the charge, offensively for MU, with a team-high 16 points. Newcomer Laniah Randle was right behind her with 11, however, they were the only two Tigers to get int double-digit scoring. The rest of the group struggled to get shots to fall, as MU shot about 41 percent from the field in the loss.
Head coach Robin Pingeton emphasized that during the offseason her team really emphasized defense and rebounding.
MU kept pace with Vermont on the boards, only losing the rebounding battle 25-22.
On the flip side, Mizzou did not fair well in the turnover battle. Head coach Robin Pingeton's team turned the ball over 25 times, while the Catamounts had 19 turnovers.
Up next - the Tigers will return to Columbia for the home opener against Southern on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
